Echoes is a TV series released on August 19, 2022. It stars Michelle Monaghan in the lead role along with Matt Bomer, Daniel Sunjata, and Karen Robinson. The story revolves around identical twins Leni and Gina who once a year on their birthday swap their lives. This column consists of 6 reasons why Echoes is a powerful show and why I loved it.
1. The concept
The makers of the show have put in the hard work to make the concept so intriguing. At first, it is difficult to point out what is happening but once you get a grip of it, you would not want the show to end. The suspense, thriller, and drama made me sit throughout the series. The twist and turns make it a nail-biting show.
2. Michelle Monaghan as Leni and Gina
It was a wonderful choice to cast Michelle in the leading role. I doubt if anyone could have played the role of Leni and Gina better than her. Though they were identical twins, their personalities were very different from each other. It would have been tricky for her but she acted with such ease.
3. Karen Robinson as Sheriff Louise Floss
Her character had a fun element in a thriller suspense series. I loved how she attempted to talk to Leni and Gina whenever she got an opportunity and cross-examine them. Sheriff Floss never took sides and treated the twins the way she had to.
4. Sisters bond in a powerful way
The series did portray how the sisters wanted to protect each other but in a very possessive way. They also forgot how it would impact their actual lives. Even if one sister did not want to, she didn’t have any choice. There was always an upper hand of some sister. This was something that felt nice as well as a bit controlling which added a psychotic element to the show.
5. The name of the drama series
The name Echoes is the best choice the makers could have decided upon. This gives a sense of curiosity to the audience about what the series is all about. Another name that would have suited the show would be Shadows but Echoes was a wonderful choice.
6. Metropolitan and suburban lives
The series made us understand the lives of metropolitan and suburban cities. Both of them is difficult in their ways but I liked the fact that the makers showed one sister from the metropolitan while the other from the suburban one.
What could be better in the series:
1. More episodes
The makers could have elaborated the story of the twins and could have given more flashbacks to understand a few more concepts. But this was only the first season so let us hope we get a second one as well.
2. Explanation
They could have explained the events in a better way and could have elaborated upon their childhood more.
3. More screen time for Jonathan Tucker and Ali Stroker
More screen could be for Dylan James and Claudia played by Jonathan Tucker and Ali Stroker respectively. Dylan could be an asset in the show and Claudia’s role could be more interesting including those in the flashbacks.
Echoes was a powerful series and I would highly recommend you to watch it. I will give this show an 8/10. It is available on Netflix.
