Top 6 Reasons To Watch India’s First Astra Verse Brahmāstra

Brahmastra Poster

General Insights

Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva released on September 9, 2022, made a wide and powerful impact on Indian Cinema. This is the first time someone in Bollywood has ever thought of making an Astra verse movie. Actors Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Mouni Roy were quite impressive. Here is my honest review of the film but before that do watch the trailer.

1. Ayan Mukerji‘s vision and concept of Brahmāstra

I had some presumptions before the movie and thought why is he taking so much time to complete it? Now, after I have watched it, I can see his vision, and what he wanted to portray. The tale is deep-rooted in religion with modern-day love. This is a large-scale movie with such respectful actors in a fantasy land that made so much sense in those 2 hours and 40 minutes.

2. Shiva-Isha and their love in the movie

This movie portrayed their love story in such a special way. We could feel Ranbir and Alia’s love through Brahmastra and the hard work they put into it. What Shiva felt for Isha, we felt it in the movie hall itself. Alia as Isha was blushing throughout the movie which was kind of cute.

3. Never-imagined visual effects

VFX was the unique selling point in Brahmāstra. The special effects took me by surprise, especially in the second half of the film. I never thought this kind of cinematography could be possible in India. It was magical, using cutting-edge technology and never-seen-before visual spectacles.

4. Mouni Roy as Junoon

Mouni Roy was fabulous as Junoon. She was bold, powerful, and confident which made it even more exciting to watch. She was in a negative role which was refreshing and intriguing to watch after a long time. Her performance was power-packed. I loved her character.

5. The songs of the movie

The most lovable song was Kesariya followed by Deva Deva and Dance Ka Bhoot. When the audio teaser came for Kesariya, the audience had already made their judgments about the movie. But I can tell you that the songs did not break the momentum of the film which made me go with the flow throughout the movie. Also, “love storiyaan” in Kesariya didn’t sound weird and out of tune at all.

6. Special mention of Shah Rukh Khan

The King of Bollywood made a special appearance in the movie which created such hype. He was charismatic and made the audience excited about the movie. He was natural as always and his role connected peculiarly. I wish I could see his character for some more time.

What could be better in the movie:

1. The first half of the movie

I felt the first half of kind of boring. They focused more on the love story of Shiva and Isha and less on the actual story of Brahāmastra. They could have made their meeting short and focused more on the actual storyline. Though the second half compensated for the first half of the movie.

2. Dialogues of the movie

Though VFX was the main motive of the makers’, I felt they could have worked better on the dialogues in the movie. Some of the dialogues didn’t make sense at all, especially for Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt’s characters.

3. More screen-time for Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna

There should have been more screen time for the exceptional actors that they are. Their roles could have elaborated which could have made the makers focus more on the storyline. I thought the writers didn’t do justice to their respective roles.

4. Alia Bhatt as Isha in the film

Alia Bhatt is an exceptional performer but somehow they haven’t used her skills up to the mark. Her movies Gangubai Kathiawadi and Darlings were such wonderfully scripted. They could have made an individual identity of her and her dialogues could be more expressive. Though Shiva and Isha’s love was there in the movie, I felt Ranbir and Alia’s chemistry was kind of forced.

Conclusion

All over, the movie is one of a kind and I loved it. I have many hopes for the other two parts of the trilogy. My verdict on the movie is 4/5. Brahmāstra is already in the theatres so you can book your tickets as soon as possible. I recommend you all watch it in 3D for the magnificent experience it showcases.
